History of The Wayfarers Drama Group
The Wayfarers Drama Group was founded in April 1951, in the living room of Ernest H Gibson, when he invited a few friends around to discuss the possibility of forming a new dramatic society. In May, they met again in larger numbers and decided to go ahead.

They agreed that they had four main aims in mind for the new society:

-
To present new plays, lesser know plays, or plays that had not previously been performed in Weston-super-Mare.
-
To aim for the highest possible standards in production.
-
To so arrange and conduct rehearsals that members should enjoy their drama.
-
To give every member a chance to perform if they wished to do so.
Twenty five years later in 1976, they celebrated their Silver Jubilee with an ambitious production of Tom Jones.

In 2001, the society reached 50 years and put on a performance of Bone Chiller to celebrate. They also hosted a 50th Anniversary Gala with cake and champagne to toast the Wayfarers' half century!

For the 60th Anniversary in 2011, Separate Tables and A Tomb With A View were the showcase productions.

Now approaching their 75th year, the Wayfarers are still going strong and already have great plans for the year ahead.

Our Performances
The Wayfarers have been privileged to be able to perform at several venues, including The Playhouse, The Blakehay and the old Knightstone Theatre, performing over 220 shows.

In the early 1980s, the group moved to the Theatre in the Hut, which has been our home for over 40 years.

We also have a youth group, Act One, which provides weekly workshops and experience for young people aged 8 - 16 who want to become involved in the theatre.
